The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering (QEPrize) has launched this year’s edition of its annual Create the Trophy competition.
The QEPrize is the world’s most prestigious engineering accolade, celebrating bold, groundbreaking engineering innovation that’s of global benefit to humanity. The Create the Trophy competition gives young designers the opportunity to get involved and celebrate the engineers who transform our lives.
Around the world, budding designers aged 14–24 are invited to create an iconic trophy that captures the essence, creativity and wonder of engineering for presentation to the QEPrize winners.
To create a trophy design, entrants should download the free QEPrize 3D Design Studio app, which is available on both iOS and Android, and then submit their design via the app. The competition closes on 29 November and the winner will be announced alongside the winners of the 2025 QEPrize on 4 February 2025.
The winning trophy designer will receive a state-of-the-art laptop and a model of their trophy, and will be invited to the QEPrize Winner Announcement in London next year. Their trophy will also be displayed in the permanent Engineers gallery at the Science Museum alongside previous winning designs.
‘The competition does more than inspire young people’s creativity, it introduces them to engineering ways of thinking,’ said Sir Ian Blatchford, chair of the judging panel and director and chief executive of the Science Museum Group. ‘Each year the complexity and vision of design skills on display make picking the winning trophy a tremendously difficult decision.’
‘My advice to young designers excited about entering the competition is to have a lot of fun,’ said Roma Agrawal MBE, Create the Trophy judge, chartered structural engineer, author and co-host of the QEPrize Create the Future podcast. ‘There are so many different possibilities – you can really push the boundaries of the different shapes and materials that are there.’
‘It is a dream-come-true moment and honour for me to see a respected engineer taking my piece of imagination as their award,’ said Anshika Agarwal, 2022 Create the Trophy competition winner. ‘I can’t even explain in words what I’m feeling.’
