The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering has launched this year’s Create the Trophy competition.
The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering (QEPrize) is the world’s most prestigious engineering accolade, celebrating bold, ground-breaking engineering innovation that is of global benefit to humanity.
The Create the Trophy competition gives budding designers aged 14-24 from around the world the opportunity to get involved and celebrate the engineers who transform our lives. The competition invites them to create an iconic trophy that captures the essence, creativity and wonder of engineering for presentation to the QEPrize winners.
Entrants are being asked to download the free QEPrize 3D Design Studio app, which is available on both iOS and Android, and submit their design via the app. The competition closes at 23.59 (UTC) on 28 November, and the winner will be announced alongside the winners of the 2026 QEPrize on 3 February 2026.
The winning trophy designer will receive a state-of-the-art laptop and a 3D-printed model of their trophy and will be invited to the QEPrize winner announcement in London next year. Their trophy will also be displayed in the permanent Engineers gallery at the Science Museum alongside previous winning designs.
‘This competition does more than inspire young people’s creativity, it introduces them to engineering ways of thinking. Each year the complexity and vision of design skills on display make picking the winning trophy a tremendously difficult decision,” said Sir Ian Blatchford, chair of judging panel and director and chief executive of the Science Museum Group
‘My advice to young designers excited about entering the competition is to have a lot of fun. There are so many different possibilities – you can really push the boundaries of the different shapes and materials that are there,’ said Roma Agrawal MBE, Create the Trophy judge, chartered structural engineer and author.
‘The competition has influenced me to consider engineering as a career choice. Engineering is a profession most responsible for how you live your life every day,’ said Sunil Thakkar, 2025 Create the Trophy competition winner.
