The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering has announced that nominations are now open for the 2027 prizes.
Awarded to up to ten outstanding engineers, the £500,000 QEPrize recognises bold, original innovations that deliver real, global benefit. It’s the world’s leading honour for engineering excellence and celebrates the people whose ideas and ingenuity have shaped how we live.
Since 2013, the prize has honoured 42 eminent engineers whose innovations have affected billions of lives. Previous winning innovations include the Internet and the World Wide Web, (2013), controlled drug delivery (2015), digital imaging sensors (2017), the Global Positioning System (2019), LED lighting (2021), sintered Nd-Fe-B permanent magnet (2022), PERC solar technology (2023), wind turbine technology (2024), machine learning (2025) and modern neural interfaces (2026).
This year, the QEPrize is especially keen to spotlight a broad spectrum of engineering achievements and the diverse talent behind them. Nominations are welcome from every corner of the engineering community from anywhere in the world and across every discipline. The only restrictions are that self‑nominations and posthumous nominations can’t be accepted.
If you know engineers whose work has transformed lives, advanced society, or opened new possibilities, now is the moment to put them forward.
The closing date for nomination(s) is 26 June 2026. The deadline for referees to submit supporting statements is 26 July 2026. The winner(s) of the QEPrize will be announced on 2 February 2027 and further details will be released closer to the time.
